Every pound donated goes towards our Ukrainian missions, minus any payment transaction fees taken by Stripe, our payment processor. Transaction fees applied are as follows: 1.5% plus 20p for UK cards + 2.5% for European Economic Area; 3.25% for international cards. Bright Jar does not take a percentage, but we may use donations to cover essential expenses.

Currently, no, although at times we may run individual appeals through this website. Donations will be used to facilitate the most pressing needs at any given time and we will use our best judgment to ensure donations are spent in the most impactful of ways.

We have a Bright Jar coordinator currently living in Mykolayiv, spending time almost daily with the citizens of the city, hearing their stories and identifying key requirements and ways to help. We are working with a local volunteer group, helping us in the distribution of our aid packages, which go directly into the hands of those in need. We have established deep friendships with Ukrainian communities, and trusted networks, both in Europe and Ukraine. During the first three months of the war, we spent a vast amount of time with refugees who had fled their homeland, supporting them as they crossed the border, sought refuge in Europe and on their continuing journeys to safety.

The word 'Bright' stems from the fact we are based in Brighton in the United Kingdom. It also represents light, which we hope will be a beacon in the darkness, shine, and bring comfort and safety to those who see it. The word 'Jar' was selected because it evokes a sense of goodness and fulfilment, safely contained.

There are several ways to help Bright Jar and we welcome your support. You can spread the Bright Jar love and light by pointing others to our website, sharing payment links and following us on Instagram. We would be grateful to anybody willing to host Bright Jar fundraising events (in future, we may also be able to provide marketing material) and we’re always looking for volunteers to join our team on the ground.
